elegant baby...one of margos favorites!

Elegant Baby® understands that babies deserve style just as fresh as they are! This marvelous collection of luxurious baby products is full of bold new colors and spectacular new designs. Even their traditional heirlooms have a newly minted gleam. Baby’s first bank? There’s a polka-dotted piggy - or a silver-plated helicopter. Baby’s first cup? Here’s a striped sippy - or a sterling silver mug. Baby’s first outfit? Try a classic cable knit - or camouflage. Whether it’s contemporary or classic, Elegant Baby® creates high-style, high-quality design.
Elegant Baby® was born in Burlington, North Carolina in 1984, the brainchild of Fred V. Hooper. Its parent company, Baby Needs, Inc., created by Hooper in 1967 as a full service distributor of baby/nursery items for mass merchants, sold products labeled as “Grow Time.” When the baby market started to contract in the mid-80’s, Hooper realized it was time to focus on the higher end of his industry, and launched Elegant Baby® . His new venture grew to become the premier source for stylish baby gifts and accessories, supplying children’s shops, gift boutiques and department stores throughout the United States.

Fast forward to 2002: Elegant Baby® is ripe for reinvention, and son Yates Hooper takes command. His years of experience in the international fashion industry had honed his ability to forecast trends, endorsed his willingness to take risks, and polished his unique aesthetic. Determined to reenergize his family’s business and explore new markets, he directs his creative team to update the product mix, using lush new colors and graphics pulled from the worlds of fashion and interior design. He revamps the media campaign with a catalog full of gorgeous models using Elegant Baby® products in sumptuous surroundings. Finally, he debuts a dazzling website befitting a global brand, www.elegantbaby.com.

Hooper’s vision of a fashion-forward, fun, sophisticated baby product company shines through every facet of Elegant Baby®’s transformation. In the midst of an uncertain economy, this family-owned American business is thriving once again, creating whimsical, stylish products for elegant babies around the world.

“Being ready and willing to change is crucial during these challenging times. We’re constantly tweaking our line, introducing new product more often than ever before. The collection has taken off in a really exciting direction, but we’re still honoring tradition,” says Hooper, “We’re going to make sure Elegant Baby® offers the best of both worlds - the old and the new.”

margos baby...the jp lizzy story-designer diaper bags

The JP Lizzy Story

A baby will change your life forever. For me, those babies came ten weeks early and weighed in at a little over two pounds each. As you can imagine, having premature twins was an overwhelming and inspiring experience bundled into one.

Thrust into motherhood, I went from fashion forward to frantic. Everywhere I went I was accompanied by bottles, blankets and diapers…always x 2. Yet no matter how hard I looked, I found vinyl bunnies and boring black bags. Where was the fashionable yet functional accessory I wanted?

As women, we carry the weight of the world on our shoulders while still trying to look chic and feel organized. Sure our priorities shift in life, but that doesn't mean we have to give up style and color. A bag that helps us hang on to our fashion sense, while remaining functional for our baby-toting needs, can make all the difference.

Recognizing the need for a practical bag that allowed me to express my sense of style, I developed JP Lizzy. My twins John Patrick and Emma Elizabeth served as namesakes, as well as the inspiration, for my company. And with the birth of my third baby Cate, my children continue to be the inspiration behind JP Lizzy and the products we create.

margos baby finds monkey toes

Kids will be kids. And stylish moms want to keep them looking cute as a button. For Jenny Ford, understanding this age old truth brought forth more than peace of mind during her morning dressing routine with her two young daughters. It brought her into the world of entrepreneurship.

Meet all the collection of Monkey-Toes, 11 different styles to suit the pickiest of finicky feet.

Monkey-Toes, Ford's line of fun animal themed footwear, blossomed from a single mother's dream of being a stay-at-home mom and an all-American business owner. Inspired by her daughter's long toes, the name "Monkey-Toes" was a perfect fit for the collection of hand painted children's sneakers and matching socks.

Jenny understands today's parents and has a great eye for style - two traits that she finds indispensable to the success of her company. She effectively balances her roles of business owner and mom. While raising her two daughters, the Colorado native works away looking for next next big idea for her one-of-a-kind shoes.

Jenny Ford is a graduate of the University of Colorado where she earned a Bachelor's degree in business with an emphasis in Finance. Prior to launching Monkey-Toes she worked in the event planning field. She loves her girls, is passionate about her business and uses a carefully orchestrated combination of Red Bull, chocolate, and Starbucks Soy Chai Lattes to stay on top of it all!

margos baby favorites-introducing serena and lily baby bedding

A chance meeting on an October day in 2003 seemed rather serendipitous at the time: Serena Dugan, a textile designer and artist, met Lily Kanter, a baby boutique owner and savvy businesswoman. Perhaps it was our differences that brought us together – our skills and backgrounds were opposite one another in that advantageous, yin-yang kind of way. Or maybe it was our striking similarities despite these differences – the collision of two go-getter Type-A scatterbrains.

In retrospect, it wasn’t simply the advantageous fit of designer with businesswoman that made sparks fly that day – it was our shared aesthetic and shared vision of the baby’s room reinvented. Children’s spaces that are fresh and style-driven, with dynamic color and pattern combination, timeless and comfortable through sophistication and simplicity…this is what we both dreamed of.

Our first collections were released 8 months later: 14 bedding sets, 30 original fabric patterns, and a look for the nursery that turned the industry on its side. As we continue to add to the line and expand into children’s furnishings, we bring the same passion, gusto, and nonsensical drive that brought our first collection to market. As our products evolve, our design values stay the same: to maintain a sense of integrity and a visual standard that is authentic and original in a sea of copycats.

At the end of a long and hectic day, we ask ourselves what continues to drive us. The answer is simple – far beyond our love of great design, we care about making a difference in the world. We are doing that through ‘Serena & Lily.’ Through a portion of product sales, we give back to the world that our children will inherit. These are the fundamental values that guide us, and the conviction that fuels the growth of our business.

…and even at the end of that long and hectic day, simply put, we love what we do.
